Colorado Baby Photographer - meet 3 week old Alana!

I love photographing friends and return clients. I was lucky enough to photography Kate & Kevin's beautiful Keystone Ranch wedding in 2007. And this month I've been photographing their darling newborn daughter Alana! Newborns are so fun to photograph because they are so interesting... some of the photos I think can be captioned "getting to know each other." Because the baby is learning all about "life on the outside" of the womb and the parents are learning all about their baby. And there is so much JOY! I love photographing newborns - I could have stayed all day!

Oxygen is often needed for babies at 9,000 feet elevation - so it can be hard to schedule newborn portraits. But I highly recommend it - and sometimes we can "work around" the oxygen!

Colorado Newborn Photographer - Meet Gracie at 15 days old!

What a fun family shoot! I photographed big sister Adalynn last year when she was two. Gracie was born December 19th and the whole family came to the studio for this shoot. Gracie was sleeping REALLY well through most of it as you can see, and Adalynn was her usual charming self!

Adalynn is a very busy active 3 year old, but when she does settle down & look at the camera - WOW! I love her blue eyes! And that hair!







And these last photos just make me laugh - Adalynn's expressions are so honest... she wants in the photo but not necessarily next to that noisy baby. We kept putting the baby in the back of her photos and when we put Gracie in her lap - she let's us know it's a bad idea! She'll love you someday soon Gracie!



We got some traditional family portraits, but I like these against the bean bag chair and everyone just hanging out!

Colorado Baby Photographer - Meet Newborn Laurel!

We were going to get maternity photos of Laurel's mom, but whoops we missed. That happens a lot... the best maternity photos I think are when the belly is the biggest and sometimes the baby comes before the photos!

But I met Laurel when she was just three weeks old and we had a great shoot at their home in Breckenridge. We had to work around the oxygen as many babies here at 9,500 feet have to have oxygen in their first few weeks of life. But I thought her newborn shoot was wonderful!

And as most newborn shoots - I feel like we got better photos with dad and Laurel than we did with mom. Both parents are adorable, but sometimes babies just relax more with their dad's - no reminders of lunchtime or feeding. Just relaxation. Ahhhhhhh...

and these photos remind me why I like to photograph babies in their own space... the natural light in her eyes... and everyone is comfortable!

Happy New Year!

Last year, inspired by other professional photographers at Pictage, I dug through the year's photos and compiled my favorite Photos of the Year for 2010. Now it has become an annual tradition, and a great way to summarize my year of photography work.
