I have to thank all my friends and clients who voted for me in this year's Best of Summit County 2010 contest. Apparently there were over 14,000 votes, and I forgot to vote myself, but just learned that I won 3rd place in the Summit Daily News Best of contest here in Summit County.
Mark Fox, a Summit Daily News photographer for more than 16 years won first place, as he does each year. And Todd Powell, a great Frisco landscape and lifestyle photographer, won second place.... I am very proud to be following in the ranks of those two great photographers! And I'm glad that they are competing in the wedding photography world against me!

Ali's Senior Portraits - Keystone, Colorado
As an avid skier, Ali wanted some of her senior portraits with chairlifts and gondolas behind them, so we went to Keystone Resort and I LOVE the results. So many great options and variety - and isn't she beautiful! I think these first ones with the Keystone gondola really look like an advertisement for Keystone! I don't know how she will choose favorites - but that's a good problem for both of us!

Twins John & Anne Senior Portrait FUN session!
Senior Portraits are great when seniors bring friends, siblings, boyfriends or girlfriends, and they really have some fun & forget about the camera! Saturday's session with John and Anne was amazing!
First, they picked a great location by the Blue River in Silverthorne! Then they were willing to just PLAY during the session and have some fun!

Of course we did some traditional photos that might be best in the yearbook, but I LOVE the active photos!

Jayn and Jerry married at Keystone Ranch
Jayn and Jerry were married at Keystone Ranch last month and the weather and location were just perfect! A 7:30pm ceremony, looking at the sun setting over the golf course & mountains... it was ideal for photographs!
And the band, Funkiphino, a 12 piece band with a whole horn section was absolutely phenomenal - there wasn't a guest not dancing! The dancefloor was a little tight, so I used a fisheye lens to get a lot of those dancing shots -
The slideshow can be viewed here.

Donovan and Eli Turn THREE!
I was lucky enough to get invited back to Donovan & Eli's 3rd birthday party, and enjoyed it just like last year's party! Bob the Builder was the theme... and those boys (and girls) sure love Bob the Builder. And Walter Byron Park in Frisco is such a great idea to leave all the mess outside and behind!

Stef's Senior Portraits
We had a great time photographing Stef's senior portraits over two different days (the first day got a little rainy!) and a few different locations. Her friend Missy came along for her senior portraits so we got to do some together & have some fun, and my second shooter Diana Sabreen helped me out to keep it moving fast & get the girls some non-traditional photos they were looking for.
The whole slideshow here...
and some of my personal favorites! (of course the senior and the parents always have different favorites... so we'll see where their favorites land!)
Isn't Stef beautiful??

Lake Dillon Rowing Regatta held August 1st
I've taken up a new sport this summer, rowing(sculling), through the Frisco Rowing Center, a non-profit based out of the Frisco Marina. What a great sport... I'm still just a beginner and don't have my "captains license" yet, but it was great to photograph the Regatta last weekend in Frisco & see all the world class rowers! Really inspiring!
All photos can be viewed online at Photoworks for prints & and Flickr for downloading digital images. (to download on flickr click on ALL SIZES or VIEW ALL SIZES above the photo you like & it gives you options for download size!)

A few lessons learned about rowing photography.... getting in a motor boat & being out in the action is the way to go (Thanks Tim & Joanne!). And you need a BIG lens... I had a 70-200mm, but left my 400mm in the car! I'll never do that again! And in most sports, there's a "money shot" when the photos are the best... I'm guessing the money shot for rowing is either at the start or finish of each stroke, but I can't figure out which is best.... fully extended, or fully loaded ready to explode! And I'm starting to get why we crop most of these into panoramic length... especially that 8 oared shell... it must be 50 feet long!
All photos for this event are free of charge for the non-profit Frisco Rowing Center! But as with most rowing centers, any donations can be made directly to: Frisco Rowing Center, PO Box 4541, Frisco, CO 80443 www.friscorowing.com
