Boulder Family Portraits - Fun Run DMC photo shoot!

Maggie, Max and Miles have been getting their photos taken with Beaton Photography for years now. And thanks to their creative mom, each year is very different. This year they wanted some traditional portraits and then some themed like RunDMC the rap group from years ago. We chose the brick wall outside the Peak School in Breckenridge and my friend and fellow photographer Frank Myers of Sweet Life Photography added the graffiti graphic on the back of the wall!

Boulder Newborn Photographer - Meet newborn twins Eleanor and Nathan!

I had the pleasure of photographing newborns last week - since Eleanor and Nathan were born very early, they had been in NICU for 7 weeks and had just been home a week or two. So they were right around their due date when I photographed them and so happy to see them healthy and growing big and strong!

Nathan was very awake, and we spent a lot of time trying to get him to sleep like his sister. But I like some of his awake photos also - maybe it's nice to show the difference in the twins together with one sound asleep and one wide awake as this first one is my very favorite photo!

Mike's Camera to Open Five New Stores in Colorado!

Over the years a lot of my clients and friends have asked, "Where do you get prints in Colorado?" I have always recommended either Wolf Camera or Mike's Camera. Unfortunately, Wolf Camera is going out of business, and I was so sad to hear that. But today there's news that Mike's Camera is going to take over five of the Colorado Wolf Camera stores and will soon have eight stores in Colorado! I think that's great news for the photo industry!

A Denver Business Journal article today explains some of the details and the five new locations. And a Denver Post article today...

The new locations, which were formerly home to the now-defunct parent of Wolf Camera, will be at:

• 3830 Wadsworth Blvd. in Wheat Ridge
• 10350 Grant St. in Thornton
• 610 16th St., on the 16th Street Mall in downtown Denver
• 1850 N. Academy Blvd. in Colorado Springs
• 7939 E. Arapahoe Road, Suite 130, in Greenwood Village

and Mike's Camera appears to be advertising a drawing for a $500 shopping spree as part of the hype - to enter, you must take your photo in front of one of these 5 new locations!

I'm excited... I was just in Mike's Camera in Boulder today, getting some prints made and am so happy that such a professional camera store is expanding!

Boulder Children's Photographer - Fall Photos in Park City

We had lived in Park City, Utah for three years, and I always travel back each fall for a week of school photos at Soaring Wings Montessori School. This year I fit in a few other family portraits and although it was cold, the colors and backdrop were perfect at the McPolin Barn for this family photo session! And thanks to Dad for knowing how to make his kiddos smile for photos and not being afraid to pull out all the stops!

Boulder Baby Photographer - Meet Newborn Baby Ihsan

I had the pleasure of doing Maternity and Newborn photos for baby Ihsan and I attended his naming ceremony! Ihsan's Dad is from Ghana, so they followed tradition and held a naming ceremony about 10 days after he was born and I feel honored to have gotten to photograph this little angel twice in his first two weeks!

The naming ceremony was an absolutely beautiful event. In Ghana the name of the baby isn't announced until this ceremony which is traditionally held at dawn. As a "compromise" between cultures, this ceremony was at 8am or there may have been few guests. I had tears in my eyes several times during the ceremony... just the tradition and the culture, and the presence of Ihsan's grandma and great aunt at the ceremony. Even the beautiful robes that mom dad and Baby Ihsan are wearing came from Ghana.
